About Monet's Card
A small studio for making impressionist cards, built from algorithms rather than filters.
1Painting, not filtering
A card is built stroke by stroke: soft washes first, then five layers of brush marks that shrink and brighten as they go, each colour jittered the way pigment is. Composition, density and sparsity come from a seeded random engine — reproducible, yet never repeating.
2Colour with a memory
The palette library holds 27 colour sets distilled from Monet's works, each with its own mood and period. Uploaded photos pass through a Wu colour quantizer and are then harmonised toward the nearest Monet palette, so their colours feel at home on the canvas.
3Yours to keep
From colour extraction to layout to export, it is one continuous workflow: bands, radius, stroke density and sparsity are all adjustable; results export as raster images, vector SVG, an animated painting-process GIF, a pasteable HTML snippet, or print to PDF.
4Monet's house at Giverny
In 1883 Monet moved his family into the pink house of Giverny — pink walls, green shutters — and dug the lily pond himself. He lived and painted there until 1926. House and garden are now run by the Fondation Claude Monet and open from spring to autumn.
5Where are Monet's paintings today?
Most of the important works are in Paris: the middle-period canvases at the Musée d'Orsay, the late Water Lilies cycle in the oval rooms of the Musée de l'Orangerie, “Impression, Sunrise” at the Musée Marmottan Monet. Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and the Met hold many more — those three Paris museums are the place to start.
6Linnea in Monet's Garden
The 1985 Swedish children's book Linnea in Monet's Garden follows a little girl to Paris and Giverny with her neighbour, and has been translated around the world. For a generation of readers it was their first sight of the pathway and the Japanese bridge — and many still arrive here searching for it.
Walk the garden, then return to the studio
The Monet's Garden page gathers the pathway, the pond and where the paintings live; the gallery shows cards built from those same palettes.
